Dr. Faisal Akkawi

Faisal Akkawi is an adjunct Faculty in the Department of Computer Science at Northwestern University e. His research interests include software architecture for concurrent software systems, reactive/adaptive intelligent systems and design issues of concurrent programming languages.

NASA Experience

Selected by NASA Faculty fellowship program in February 2003, Dr. Akkawi performed duties in the Avionic Office in the Johnson Space Center. He designed and implemented a framework that was used in the Advanced Diagnostic and Advanced Caution and Warning System for the International Space Station (ISS). In May 2005, Dr. Akkawi was again selected by the NASA Faculty Fellowship program. Dr. Akkawi reported to the Ames Research Center (ARC), also working in the Avionic Office. He worked on the Integrated System Health Management (ISHM) Testbed project, a joint effort involving multiple NASA Centers working together in a distributed software development environment to develop next-generation ISHM technologies for the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV), lunar habitats and human missions to Mars.
