Including Illinois Institute of Technology in Your Will or Living Trust

By including Illinois Institute of Technology in your will or living trust, you can shape the future of research, student life, scholarship support, or any other area of interest on campus.

Create a plan for distributing your property to the people and charities you want to benefit. Below is a step-by-step guide for creating your legacy for the benefit of Illinois Institute of Technology through your estate plans.

  1. Designation through your will and trust documents

Consult with an attorney who regularly drafts wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents. Contact our office to obtain sample bequest language for you to share with your attorney that designates Illinois Institute of Technology as a beneficiary of your will or living trust.
    Sample bequest language (pdf)
    is also provided.

  2. Designating Illinois Institute of Technology as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy

Another way to support the mission of Illinois Institute of Technology is by designating IIT as a charitable beneficiary of your retirement plan. In most cases, your plan will allow you to designate IIT as the beneficiary of either all or part (normally listed as a percentage of the total amount) of your retirement or 401K plans. We are happy to provide assistance in this area, but you should contact your plan administrator to be sure you can name IIT as beneficiary and work with the plan administrator to sign the correct paperwork required.

  3. Designating Illinois Institute of Technology as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy

Almost all insurance policies allow you to designate charities as beneficiaries. Most also allow you to name multiple non-profit organizations as partial beneficiaries of single policies. Designating IIT as a beneficiary can be accomplished by speaking with your life insurance representative, explaining that you wish to designate IIT as a beneficiary, and having the representative provide the correct forms to fill out and sign. Once you have obtained the forms, we will be happy to assist with any information you may require from IIT to help make the designation.

Be sure to contact our office upon the completion of your bequest to join and receive membership privileges.

For most wills, trusts, retirement plans, and insurance policies you will need the formal name of the institution. You should use the following information on all forms:
