THIS GUIDELINE IS FOR THE 2004 - 2007 ACADEMIC BULLETIN AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE

GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 223, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 241, 243, 244, 246; HIST 121, 122, 123, 124, 221, 222, 223; HUM 121, 122, 221; or PHI 121, 123, 126, 221.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 121, 221, 224, 228; ECO 110, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225; GEG 122, 123, 223; PSC 121, 122, 221, 222, 223; PSY 121, 122, 129, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225, 226; or SOC 121, 222, 223, 224, 225.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ARC 228; ART 121, 240, 241, 242, 260; ENG 128, 129, 222, 224, 247, 263, 264; HST 126, 127, 129, 225, 240, 241; HUM 123, 125, 127, 128, 222, 223, 226; MUS 124, 140, 224; PHI 129; or THE 121.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 121; BIOL 120, 121, 122, 124, 125, 127, 140, 221, 222, 224, 225; CHM 120, 121, 123, 125; GEO 121, 122, 124, 214; PHY 121, 122, 123.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 145 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - ICOM majors may choose CIS 113, 211, or MCS 140, PTC majors may choose CIS 215, 216 or MCS 141.
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose PHI 125.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: ENG 123; PSY 225.
   
   
10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: ARA 121, 122; BUS 122; CHI 121, 122; FRN 121, 122; ITL 121, 122; JPN 121, 122; MTH 222; PSC 222; PSY 121, 122; RUSS 121, 122; or SPA 121, 122.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses in the above sections or any course that has an "IAI" designation, except MTH 127 and MTH 141.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at the College of Lake County. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
