Humanities and Social Science Requirement
(See pages 25-26 of the 2002-2004 Dominican University Bulletin)

At least 21 semester hours must be completed to satisfy the Humanities and Social Sciences requirement at IIT, including 12 semester hours at the 200-level or above.

Requirement 1.

Engl 101 and 102 or Writing Proficiency

Requirement 2.

Freshman Seminar - 4 semester hours
Sophomore Seminar - 3 semester hours
Junior Seminar - 3 semester hours

Senior Seminar - 3 semester hours

Requirement 3.

Modern Foreign Languages 150 - 3 hours

Requirement 4.

Multicultural Requirement - 3 semester hours

The student may choose courses to satisfy the following requirements from those listed in the 2002 - 2004 Dominican University Bulletin.

Requirement 5.

History Elective - 3 or 4 semester hours

Choose any History course except for Hist 211, 212, 300 and 399 thru 499.

Requirement 6.

Philosophy Elective - 3 or 4 semester hours

Choose any Philosophy course except for Phil 101, 250, 299, 410, and 450. The student may also complete LA&S 451, 453, or 455 to fulfill this requirement.

 

Requirement 7.

Social Science Elective - 3 or 4 semester hours

Choose any Economics course except for ECON 365, 371, 372, 450, and 455; any Political Science course except for PS 299, 323, 348, 450 and 455; any Psychology course except for PSYC 249, 260, 301, 302, 340, and 450 thru 475; or any Sociology course except for SOC 208, 212, 220, 242, 255, 265, 281, 290, 299, 310, 311, 340, and 361 thru 455. The student may also complete LA&S 255 or 359 to fulfill this requirement.

Requirement 8.

Literature and Fine Arts Elective - 3 or 4 semester hours

Choose any English Literature course listed on pages 87-88 of the 2002 - 2004 DU bulletin except for ENGL 204, 306, 312, 317, 322, 326 and 354; any French Literature course listed on page 100 of the 2002-2004 DU bulletin except for FREN 364; any Italian Literature course listed on page 119-120 of the 2002-2004 DU bulletin; any Spanish Literature course listed on page 172 of the 2002-2004 DU bulletin; any Art History course listed on pages 50-51 of the 2002-2004 DU bulletin except for ART 445; any Music History and Literature course listed on pages 138-139 of the 2002-2004 DU bulletin except for MUS 450; or any Film course listed on pages 66-67 of the 2002-2004 except for CAS 201, 219, 222, 226, 227, 291, and 387. The student may also complete THEA 276, 284, 392, and 394 or LA&S 256, 257, 259, 358, 360, 367, 459 and 460 to fulfill this requirement.

Requirement 9.

Theology Elective - 3 or 4 semester hours
Choose any Theology course except for THEO 101, 102, 245, 252, 256, 265, 276, 286, 299, 343, 353, 360, 366 thru 386, 450 and 485.
