GENERAL EDUCATION
PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT
Bulletin for complete requirements.
- Basic
Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency
by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination
or by passing an English Composition course.
- Humanities
- Choose one course from the following: ENG 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108,
208, 209, 220, 250, 260, 270; HIST 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 200,
201, 250; or PHIL 101, 102.
- Social
Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANTH 101;
ECON 100, 103, 104, 210, 220; GEOG 102, 106; PSCI 101, 102, 103; PSYC 102,
205, 207, 210, 215, 250, 273; or SOC 101, 220, 240, 270, 280, 290, 293,
295.
- Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following:
ART 115, 116, 117, 118; ENG 109, 190; HIST 210, 220, 230, 240, 260, 290,
293; MUS 101, 102, 103, 107, 201, 202; or THEA 101.
- Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours
is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course
must be in a different field. Choose from the following: ASTR 101; BIO 104,
105, 107, 125, 144, 147, 151, 152, 160, 210, 220; CHEM 100, 101, 102, 108;
GEOG 111; GEOL 101, 102; PHSCI 120; or PHYS 100, 101, 102.
- Mathematics - Choose MATH 170 (IIT's Math 151).
- Computer Science - PTC majors should take CIS 236. ICOM
majors may take (CIS 236 and 246) or CIS 261 (IIT's CS 201).
- Ethics Elective - Choose PHIL 103.
- Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course
from the following: ANTH 275; BIO 146; ECON 111; GEOG 104; or PSYC 206,
208.
- ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following:
ENG 190; FRCH 101, 102; GER 101, 102; JOUR 103, 104; MKTG 101, 115; MATH
128; PSYC 101; SPAN 101, 102; SPCH 106, 131; or THEA 102.
- Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses
listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation,
except MATH 124, 127, and 153.
- Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical
Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on
the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Joliet Junior
College. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional
information.
