HIS GUIDELINE IS VALID FOR THE 2004 - 2007 ACADEMIC BULLETIN AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE

GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: COM 102; HIS 101, 102, 105, 201, 202, 250, 251; HUM 101, 102, 104, 115; LIT 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225, 226; or PHI 101, 115, 120.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 201, 202, 205, 210; ECO 101, 102, 250; GEO 101, 102, 201; PSC 103, 110, 115, 210, 212, 215, 225; PSY 101, 104, 105, 106, 201, 202, 205, 210, 211, 215, 220; SOC 101, 102, 103, 201, 202, 204, 210; or SSC 100, 101, 102.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 110, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209; COM 120; HIS 204, 207, 210, 211, 215, 220, 230, 254; HUM 249, 251; LIT 205, 280; MUS 106, 107; PHI 111; or THE 107, 110.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: BIO 111, 112, 115, 119, 211, 215, 230; CHM 131, 132; EAS 120; GEL 150; PHS 103, 105; or PHY 150, 151.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 150 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - PTC majors should take CSC 140. ICOM majors should take either MIS 160 or MIS 176 (IIT's CS 201).
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose one course from the following: PHI 125, 225, 226.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: NAT 111, 112; or PSY 202.
   
   
10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: BUS 130; FRE 101, 102; GER 101, 102; JPN 101, 102; MTH 139, 212; PSC 210; PSY 101, 201; SPA 101, 102; or THE 107.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except MTH 120 and 122.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Moraine Valley. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
