GENERAL EDUCATION
PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT
Bulletin for complete requirements.
- Basic
Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency
by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination
or by passing an English Composition course.
- Humanities
- Choose one course from the following: ENG 211, 215, 216, 220, 221,
225; HIS 103, 104, 105, 106, 190; HUM 150, 151; or PHI 125, 126, 180, 201.
- Social
Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 101,
102; ECO 101, 102; GEG 105, 115, 125; HIS 180; HUM 181; POL 201, 202; PSY
101, 104, 201, 202, 205, 210, 211, 215; SSC 101, 102, 140; or SOC 100, 101,
102, 201, 220.
- Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART
120, 125, 126, 127, 217, 220; ENG 218; HIS 140; HUM 153, 154; MUS 100, 101,
102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109; or SPE 108, 110.
- Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours
is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course
must be in a different field. Choose from the following: BIO 102, 103, 104,
110, 111, 202; CHM 100, 105, 106; GEG 101; GEL 101; PHS 101, 103, 104: or
PHY 101, 102.
- Mathematics - Choose MAT 201 (IIT's Math 151).
- Computer Science - PTC majors should take CPS 120. ICOM
majors may take CPS 120 or 200 (IIT's CS 201).
- Ethics Elective - Choose from either PHI 126 or 180.
- Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course
from the following: ANT 102; BIO 202; GEG 115; or PSY 104, 201.
- ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following:
BUS 107; ENG 151, 152; HUM 153; JRN 106; MAT 141; PSY 101, 104; or SPN 101,
102.
- Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses
listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation,
except MAT 102 and 124.
- Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical
Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on
the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Morton.
