GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 211, 212, 215, 221, 231, 232, 240, 241, 242, 261, 262, 271; HIST 111, 112, 151, 152, 201, 202; HUMAN 101, 102; or PHILO 201, 204, 205.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANTHR 215, 222; ECON 201, 202, 289; GEOG 101, 102; POLSC 101, 140, 152, 230, 240; PSYCH 101, 102, 106, 202, 203, 204, 212, 215, 217; SOCSC 101; or SOCIO 101, 111, 210, 212, 215, 220.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 121, 122, 124, 126, 129, 131; ENG 220; HIST 115, 116, 140, 230; HUMAN 102, 202; MUSIC 130, 131, 132, 172; or THTRE 101, 104.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: ASTRO 101, 200; BIOL 100, 103, 105, 106, 111, 112; CHEM 104, 105, 110, 130; GEOG 105; GEOLO 210, 220; METEO 150; PHYSC 111, 112; or PHYSI 110, 120, 130.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MATH 171 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - PTC majors should take ITPRG 144. ICOM majors should take ITPRG 147 (IIT's CS 201).
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose PHILO 202.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: ANTHR 222; BUS 140; PSYCH 204, 215; or SOCIO 212.
   
   
10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: BUS 240, 249, 251; COMM 111; ENG 110, 111; FREN 101, 102; GERM 101, 102; ITAL 101, 102; JRNLM 101; MATH 153; POLSC 240; PSYCH 101; SPAN 101, 102; or THTRE 103.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except ART 207; ECED 299; MATH 112, 115, 155, 161, 206; MUSIC 101, 102, 110, 120, 141, 142, 152, 153, 162, 163, 191, 192, 201, 202, 252, 253, 262, 263, 291, 292; and THTRE 121.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Prairie State. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
