01/22/08

For the fifth time this season, including the second straight week, New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

McEntee earned the Co-Player of the Week honor, sharing the designation with Molly Hackney of the University of Chicago.

In a 2-1 week for the Violets (13-1, 2-1 UAA), McEntee averaged 19.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals while shooting 47.6% (20-for-42) from the field and 88.9% (16-for-18) from the charity stripe.

After finishing with 17 points, eight rebounds and a career-best four steals in a 54-36 win at Hunter College on Jan. 14, McEntee posted consecutive double-doubles in road UAA games: 19 points and 13 boards in a 62-55 setback at the University of Rochester on Jan. 18 and 21 points and 10 caroms at Carnegie Mellon University on Jan. 20.

For the season, McEntee leads the UAA in scoring (20.5 ppg) and rebounding (11.7 rpg). The 5-11 junior captain ranks 15th nationally in scoring and 16th in Division III in rebounding.

NYU returns to action Friday, Jan. 25, when it hosts UAA rival Washington University at 6 p.m. The game is a "Tear It Up!" event, which means there will be free food and t-shirts for NYU students.
