The
Institute of Design is located at 350 North LaSalle
Street in downtown Chicago, on the southwest corner of LaSalle
and Kinzie streets, just north of the Chicago River, between
the Merchandise Mart and the old "Traffic Court"
building.
Air Travel
In the heart of downtown Chicago, ID is easily
accessible from Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports via public
transportation (see the blue and orange line train directions
below) or taxi. By taxi, you should expect to pay $25+ for
a one-way fare, depending on the traffic and the weather.
(Public transportation fare is $1.50 one-way.) The drive to
ID from O'Hare Airport takes anywhere between 45 minutes and
1.5 hours, depending on traffic. The drive from Midway Airport
can take between 25 minutes and one hour. Check out the City

Amtrak
and Commuter Trains
Amtrak or commuter
railroads to Union, NorthWestern or LaSalle Street stations,
then public transportation, taxi, or walk to 350 North LaSalle
Street.
Bus
To Greyhound
or Continental Trailways terminal, then public transportation
or taxi to 350 North LaSalle Street.
Subway
and Elevated Trains
CTA brown line (Ravenswood) to the Merchandise Mart. Exit
the Merchandise Mart at the corner of Kinzie and Wells streets.
Walk east on Kinzie Street one block to the corner of LaSalle
Street. CTA red line (Howard-Dan Ryan) to Grand Street. Walk
three blocks west to LaSalle Street, then three blocks south
to Kinzie Street.
CTA green line (Lake-Englewood-Jackson Park) to Clark/State
Street stop. Either walk north across the LaSalle Street bridge
or transfer to a brown line train and travel one stop north
to the Merchandise Mart stop. ID is located one block east
of the Mart.
CTA blue line (Congress-Douglas-O'Hare) to Clark/State Street
stop. As this is a subway stop, proceed to street level and
walk north across the LaSalle Street bridge. Or transfer to
a brown line train at the elevated platform and travel one
stop north to the Merchandise Mart.
CTA orange line (Midway) to Clark/State Street stop. Either
walk north across the LaSalle Street bridge or transfer to
a brown line train and travel one stop north to the Merchandise
Mart stop.

Local
Bus
From Hyde Park: CTA bus line #6 (Jeffry Express) to South
Water Street/Michigan Avenue stop, then walk west six blocks
to LaSalle Street and proceed north across the LaSalle Street
bridge. Or transfer to a brown line train at Randolph/State
Street (one block south and one block west of the bus stop)
to the Merchandise Mart. (Purchase your transfer when you
get on the #6 bus. The cost is a mere $.30 for a transfer.)
From north: CTA bus lines #156 LaSalle Street or #22 Clark
Street to Kinzie Street stop. (Note that when departing ID,
the #22 Clark Street bus stops on Dearborn Street, one block
west of Clark, as Clark is a one-way street.)

Automobile
Via 90/94 (Kennedy/Dan Ryan Expressways), exit at Ohio Street
exit. Travel east toward downtown for approximately 4 blocks
and take a right on LaSalle Street. Drive south on LaSalle
for about 4 blocks until you reach the corner of Kinzie and
LaSalle streets. There are numerous parking lots in the surrounding
area. You should expect to pay between $7 and $17, depending
on the length of time for which you park.
Via 290 (Eisenhower), proceed east until you reach the 90/94
west entrance, which is the northbound route. Exit at Ohio
Street. Travel east toward downtown for approximately 4 blocks
and take a right on LaSalle Street. Drive south on LaSalle
for about 4 blocks until you reach the corner of Kinzie and
LaSalle streets.
From Lake Shore Drive: exit at Grand Street and travel west
to LaSalle Street, then proceed three blocks south to Kinzie
Street
