Butcher was owner of the famous Fanny Butcher Book Store, which became a literary salon in Chicago. Her autobiography, Many Lives—One Love,
chronicles her friendships with such major literary figures as Ernest Hemingway, Sinclair Lewis, and Edna Ferber.
