The following is the minutes of 27-Mar-05 IIT Alumni get-together/meet held between 5:00 and 7:00 pm at the IIT office on Haudin Road, Bangalore.

• Attendees:

• Each of the agenda items (circulated earlier) was discussed among the members present and minutes recorded for further action.

• Newsletter:
  Identifed Adnoor Narendra and Jayachandran to team together to work on our Newsletter in electronic format. Peridicity could be 'quarterly' to start with and the contents could be decided by these two in consultation with others.

• Funding:
  Bhartendu suggested funding by participants as necessary before organsisng other events. After debate, it was agreed that the association should hold/conduct a few imporatant events in the next few months before seeking funds from members.

• Registering IIT Alumni association:
  Bhartendu felt that the association should be regsitered and Anil suggested that this be done as non-profit organisation. Then members' contribution could get tax exemption. Forming association is necessary to collect money from memebrs and others, to open bank account, to organise events etc. It was agreed that in next 3 weeks, procedure to get the association formed and registered would be worked out.

• Web-page for Alumni in India:
  Narendra suggested that IIT India Alumni association should have a web page with link to Alumni web page in IIT website. Kiran agreed that feasibility would be examined in consultation with IIT chicago. It was also suggested that we should ascertain what other alumni associations are doing.Kiran agreed to have this checked up.

• Activities:
  Shiv Kumar suggested that mentoring new students could be done by the alumni. Anil suggested that we do some some social service. After debating it was agreed that our Alumni could be asked to deliver talks to our Alumni,Current students and even address college students in local area. It was agreed that this would be explored. It was felt by those present that even the current students should be permitted to join alumni meetings.

• Conducting Deficiency courses:
  Raja requested Alumni present to propogate the requirement of a good instructor who could teach Java and data structures in java as per laid out curriculum of IIT chicago. These are be taught as deficiency courses.

• Communication among alumni members:
  Memebers felt that for alumni communication, offical E-Mail Id should not be used. Kiran sought such E-mail Id from participants for communication by him. He agreed to make yahoo group for communication amongst Alumni.In addition, it was decided that the members communicate ideas and suggestions over the next month on further activities and crystallize thoughts over a period of time.

• Next Meeting:
  Kiran suggested the next meeting be held for last Sunday of April 05 at the same venue at Haudin road. Precise time would be communicated later through E-mail. It was also felt that the meet should be held every month over the next few months (to start with) and it could be held every quarter later on.
