Research & Major Accomplishments
Professor Krawczyk's teaching and research focuses on digital craftsmanship. His work covers digital methods and artwork integrating science, mathematics, architecture, and technology. Krawczyk’s artwork includes prints, web pieces, sculptural, and architectural studies. His main interest is in exploring the variety of interesting design opportunities that occur when nature, chaos, order, mathematics, and form are all interrelated and contrasted, using a wide range of digital technologies to conceive as well as produce his work.
Recently, Princeton Architectural Press published a textbook based on his form generation course as "The Codewriting Workbook: Creating Computational Architecture in AutoLISP." ACADIA, the Association of Computer-Aided Design in Architecture, awarded Krawczyk the 2010 ACADIA Award for Teaching Excellence. Current art exhibits include Bauhaus Now: Contemporary Applications of Bauhaus Concepts and Practice, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Chicago; Art Chicago 2011; and Chicago’s Art Loop Open 2011.
Prior to teaching at IIT, Krawczyk pioneered digital graphic applications in the architectural office of Murphy/Jahn in Chicago in 1970’s, contributing to the architectural projects lead by Gene Summers and Helmut Jahn.
