IIT College of Architecture Faculty
Professor Frank Flury's unique method of teaching architectural design through construction has led to IIT's new Design/Build Studios, earning him a national reputation in that area. In the classroom and studios, Flury's students test their imaginations, and outside the classroom, he provides them opportunities to participate in important community service projects.
When Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, it was no surprise that Flury was one person who took quick action. He gathered a co-curricular team of faculty, students and staff to build the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center for the people of Gulfport, Mississippi. He has also led several other funded pro-bono projects. For these efforts he received the prestigious Collaborative Practice Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
