Margaret Burke. The Rail Transfer Parkland is a much needed public landscape and ecological zone on Chicago’s southwest side. Formerly an elevated rail transfer built during the early 20th century, the parkland makes use of rails and site remnants to delineate programming throughout the twenty-acre landscape, while evoking the rail transfer's rich industrial past. 1 of 2.

Megan Wade, "Prairie on Taylor." The park is located in Roosevelt Square, a mixed-use development in Chicago's University Village neighborhood, at the intersection of Loomis St. and Taylor St. The park functions as a place for passive enjoyment and water management in the form of a native prairie and wetland. A new topography is created on the site, allowing for a wide variety of conditions and plant material. The management of the park through prescribed burn instills a sense of community while simultaneously educating the public about native Midwestern landscapes.
