Energy Programs and Projects: 2009/2010 school year
Achieving our sustainability goals requires action, and while we develop a guiding plan for how to achieve the Campus Sustainability Vision, IIT is implementing the following projects and programs to have an immediate, positive impact.
Energy Efficiency
- Target buildings based upon Audit and Metering
- Expanded building automation
- Motor replacement
- Lighting controls
Metering Modernization
- Upgrade 400+ meters on campus to digital read
- Provide real-time information via Internet
- Improve on-going collection and management of data
- Automate some functions of the Campus Resource Audit
- Facilitate need parallel construction competitions and transparent reporting
Smart Grid/PerfectPower
- OCES managing implementation
- North substation work
- Hermann, Perlstein, Alumni, Wishnick, Siegel loop
- Full design and south substation
Each semester, as many as twelve Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) bring together teams of students to address issues related to sustainability. In the Spring 2010 semester, the Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability is sponsoring IPRO 326 Greening IIT; the team from that IPRO will work with the group developing the Stormwater/Landscape Action Plan to identify and document the specific steps IIT can take to become a greener, more sustainable campus.
