Jean Tzou, PhD, Interim Assistant Director of Health and Wellness, Staff Psychologist

Dr. Jean Tzou earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 2009. She completed her internship at the Counseling and Psychological Services of Penn State University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Counseling and Consultation Services of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Tzou describes her theoretical orientation in terms of feminist and interpersonal process within a socio-cultural context. Her counseling style reflects an integrated approach utilizing acceptance and commitment, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral, dynamic, relational, and experiential interventions. Her professional interests include trauma work, multicultural counseling, risk management, substance abuse/addiction, diagnosis/assessment, supervision, and social justice. She believes in a strength based approach to working with students and sees counseling as a creative and collaborative process in helping students make necessary changes toward improving psychological well-being. Trained as a generalist, Dr. Tzou enjoys working with students from various backgrounds with a wide range of presenting concerns, but her clinical interests focus on issues related to depression, anxiety, adjustment, acculturation, identity development, relationship problems, and stress management. Dr. Tzou is fluent in Mandarin/Chinese, Taiwanese, and English.
Colin F. Ennis, PsyD, Staff Psychologist
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Colin Ennis earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2009. He completed his internship at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign’s Counseling Center, and a post-doctoral fellowship at Princeton University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Ennis’ approach to therapy is most heavily influenced by contemporary psychodynamic theories of psychology that view the therapeutic relationship as nonjudgmental, interactive and facilitating insight into current issues. His clinical interests include depression, anxiety management, relational difficulties, gender identity and sexual orientation issues, adult children of alcoholic and dysfunctional families, substance abuse issues and phase of life difficulties. Dr. Ennis meets with clients on the downtown campus.
Nicolas Debernardi, MA, Post Doctoral Fellow
Nicholas Debernardi is a doctoral candidate from the Ph. D. Counseling Psychology program at University of Missouri-Kansas City. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at University of Illinois at Chicago's Counseling Center and currently serves as the postdoctoral fellow at IIT's Student Health and Wellness Center. He is also the appointed liasion to the IIT Kedge program and works closely with students facing academic difficulties. Nick approaches the therapeutic process from a psychodymanic orientation with an emphasis on relational and socio-cultural dynamics. His professional experiences include substance abuse/addiction, grief and loss, trauma, problematic internet use, relationship difficulties, career concerns, issues surrounding sexual orientation, and identity exploration. Nick has a particular interest in working with students strggling with academic issues and helping students achieve their academic goals.
