    C. Robert Carlson, Ph.D.

    Dean, IIT’s School of Applied Technology

    Bob Carlson has a broad background in computer science with experience in both academia and industry.  As the Academic Dean of IIT's School of Applied Technology, he is actively engaged in the development of new educational programs and opportunities for working professionals.  He was a member of the Computer Science faculty at Northwestern University and became a professor at Illinois Institute of Technology in 1984.  Prior to accepting his current appointment as Associate Dean of the Graduate College and Director of the Rice Campus, he served as chair of the Computer Science Department at IIT.  Dr. Carlson has a distinguished record of publication and his work is cited in over thirty texts.  He earned his Bachelor's degree at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.  His research interests include relational databases, database design tools and methodologies, multimodel information systems, distributed information systems, design patterns and design-driven software.
