John W. Rowe honored as Outstanding Leader in Industry

IIT honored Mr. John W. Rowe as its "Outstanding Leader in Industry" for 2008.  He was chosen for this award due to his demonstrated leadership and efforts to responsibly address energy and environmental challenges.

John Rowe is the president, chairman, and chief executive officer of Exelon Corporation (the parent company of Commonwealth Edison).  Exelon is one of the largest utility companies in the U.S. with 5.4 million customers.  In 2004, Forbes magazine ranked Exelon as the number one utility company on its list of "The World’s 2,000 Leading Companies."  In 2005, the magazine again awarded Exelon the top spot on its list of "The Best Managed Companies in America."

Rowe is renowned for his extensive professional experience and philanthropy.  His civic and professional interests in history, education, and diversity are evidenced by his involvement with the boards of many prestigious organizations, committees, and education institutions.  He has served on the boards of directors for Sunoco, the Northern Trust Company, Fleet Boston Financial Corporation, the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and many others.  Rowe has been chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Chicago History Museum, and currently serves as co-chair of the National Commission on Energy Policy.

John Rowe joined IIT’s Board of Trustees in 2004 and in November 2006 assumed the position of chairman of the board.

The event also recognized the graduates of the Industrial Technology and Management Program.
