Earth and Physical Science for the Primary Classroom, PLED 508
About this Course:
Subtitled, "Zula's Ready, Set -- Science!" workshop, this one-day program is designed for early childhood level science teachers. Participants may elect to receive one credit hour from the Center for Professional Development of Illinois Institute of Technology. The workshop will train preschool and kindergarten teachers on science inquiry and critical thinking in the early education classroom. It will show how to incorporate an integrated curriculum with emphasis on science, math and language arts. Participants will engage in hands-on earth science and physical science activities.
Prerequisites:
Participants should be certified Preschool / PreK and / or Kindergarten teachers.
Who Should Attend:
Preschool / PreK and Kindergarten teachers.
Expected Outcomes:
Preschool / Kindergarten educators will be empowered to feel comfortable about incorporating science into the curriculum - in conjunction with other curriculum areas such as language arts and math. Educators will learn how to implement hands-on, research-based science activity "missions" tied to NAEYC Curriculum. Participants will understand a child-directed, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.
