    UNIX System and Administration, IT-O 452

    About this Course:
    Students learn to setup and configure a contemporary operating system, including the actual installation of the operating system on the student workstation in a networked client-server environment. User account management, security, printing, disk configuration, and backup procedures are addressed, with particular attention to coverage of TCP/IP and TCP/IP applications. System installation, configuration and administration issues as well as network file systems, network access and compatibility with other operating systems are also addressed.

    Prerequisites:
    IT 302 Introduction to UNIX and shell Scripting or equivalent experience required for enrollment.

    Who Should Attend:
    Professionals working towards Sun's certification exam or seeking basic knowledge of client-server implementation.

    Expected Outcomes:
    Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

    • Utilize Sun's curriculum to give participants comprehensive hands-on training and prepare them for Sun's Certification Exams

    • Introduction
    • Solaris operating system
    • Comparison between Solaris and other Unix operating systems such as Linux, IBM's AIX, HP-UX, FreeBSD and SGI's IRIX.
    • Stand alone installation
    • File system management
    • Backup procedures, process control
    • User administration, device management, configure
    • Troubleshoot the NFS, configure the Network Information System (NIS) environment
    • Disk management and JumpStart.
