About
IIT College of Science and Letters
Science and Letters for the 21st Century
The great chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur said, "Le hasard ne favorise qu'un esprit préparé," or "Fortune favors only the prepared mind." To see and take advantage of opportunity, you must be prepared.
IIT College of Science and Letters prepares students' minds. It educates future leaders who not only excel in their discipline but also are educated in a broader sense, with an understanding of the needs and complexities of the modern world.
CSL's programs are largely grounded in science and technology but also are firmly rooted in the liberal arts tradition with humanities, social sciences and education.
CSL serves undergraduate and graduate students who focus in the science or letters, while providing core classes for nearly every IIT undergraduate, through six departments: Applied Mathematics; Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences; Computer Science; Humanities; Mathematics and Science Education; and Social Sciences.
CSL plays a key role in developing the distinctive IIT graduate – one who combines the discipline-specific knowledge of the very best private technological university with exposure to the knowledge and mindsets of the broad range of disciplines and professions at IIT.
