    Remembering Gene Golub

On Friday, February 29, 2008, the Department of Applied Mathematics at IIT will host a luncheon and lecture event to honor Professor Gene Golub (1932-2007), a pioneer in numerical analysis and champion of cross-disciplinary collaboration in the mathematics research community. As a tribute to this remarkable man and his contributions to the mathematics world, IIT's Applied Mathematics department is participating in "Gene Golub Around the World", a series of lectures and symposia on what would have been Professor Golub's 19th birthday.

The meeting will begin at 12:45 pm in Stuart Building 113, with a lunch and sharing memories of Professor Golub. At 1:00, Associate Professor Gregory Fasshauer will then present a lecture, "Remembering Gene Golub: From Chicago to Stanford and Around the World," marking Golub's life and development into a world-renowned mathematician. Please join us as we celebrate this extraordinary man.
