Applied Math Faculty Win Dean's Awards for Research

Two Applied Math faculty members won the 2009 College of Science and Letters Dean's Awards for Excellence in Research at a banquet held November 24, 2009 on the IIT Main Campus.

Assistant Professor Shuwang Li won the Junior Faculty Research Award for his publication in the journal Physical Review Letters on branching patterns in viscous fluids. This paper was featured on the cover of the May 1st issue of Physical Review Letters, an international letters journal covering topics in all fields of general physics. The paper, Li's first publication as a member of the IIT faculty, explores how shape instabilities can be controlled when a fluid system is out of equilibrium.
