Applying to IIT Professional Science Master's Programs

If you are a new applicant, or a current non-degree seeking student who would like to apply for degree admission, please follow the steps outlined below.

Please be advised that only nine credit hours of approved coursework as a non-degree seeking student may be transferred to your degree program. Therefore, we recommend that you begin this process several months before you reach this limit so as not to delay your matriculation.

Degree application: Complete an online application indicating the degree program to which you are applying (choose one of the following):

    PSM Program    Degree    Major
    Biology    MAS    BIO
    Health Physics    MAS    HP
    Analytical Chemistry    MCH    ACHM
Materials and Chemical Synthesis    MCH    MCS
Non-Degree Admission    NGD    Choose from above

    Certificate Program    Degree    Major

Transcripts: If you haven't already done so, please arrange with your undergraduate college(s) and all post-graduate programs you've attended to send official transcript(s) to the Office of Graduate Admission.

GRE: If your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, you may need to take the general Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Please consult with your program coordinator. If you are an international student or earned your bachelor's degree from a non-U.S. institution, you are required to take the general GRE. The minimum GRE score for admission into the professional science master's program is 900 (combined quantitative and verbal) and 2.5 (analytical). GRE scores older than five years are not accepted.

Personal Statement: As requested on the application form, you must submit a personal statement to the Office of Graduate Admission. The personal statement is a one-page essay on why you want to earn this degree. You should explain your background, your qualifications, and your future personal or professional goals.

Recommendation Letters: You must also submit two letters of recommendation. Please follow up to make sure they have been sent to, and received by, the Office of Graduate Admission. You may check the status of your application by using your ID number at: www.grad.iit.edu. Recommenders may write a personalized letter or use the form provided with the application. For application forms go to www.grad.iit.edu/admission/apforms.html.

TOEFL-if applicable: If you obtained your bachelor's degree from a non-English speaking program, then you should be prepared to take the TOEFL exam. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based).

Application Fee: The application fee is $40. If you have already paid the $40 application fee for the non-degree application, then your application fee for the degree program will be waived.
