    Master of Health Physics

Earn your Master of Health Physics online!

The Masters in Health Physics program at IIT is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of health physics - a discipline that concerns itself with the detection of and the methods to protect human health from the biological effects of radiation. The program incorporates business skills increasingly demanded by employers in the field of radiation protection and detection.

    This program includes:

    • Fundamental knowledge about radiation and how it affects human health.
    • Expertise to assess radiation safety programs.
    • Advanced operational knowledge of health physics in the regulatory arena.
    • Excellent preparation for ABHP certification.

The program is designed primarily, but not exclusively, for people already engaged in the practice of health physics; for mid-career professionals who are looking to improve and document their knowledge of radiation safety and protection, and for professionals who are interested in having a deeper understanding of the scientific basis of their profession while seeking career advancement. Many students currently enrolled in the program are radiation safety officers or are otherwise employed in regulatory health physics or power-plant health physics; others work in the closely allied field of medical physics.

Most of our students are working adults, and as a result, we have organized the program to accommodate the needs of full-time employees. The degree can be completed in four semesters and two summer sessions of online part-time study. One exciting on-site instrumentation course provides valuable hands-on experience in radiation detection.

For students interested in the subject matter of health physics, but whose educational needs do not extend to a full Master's degree, IIT offers a Certificate in Radiological Physics.
