BCPS Professional Science Master's Programs
Master of Materials and Chemical Synthesis
This program provides advanced operational knowledge of state-of-the-art materials preparation and chemical synthesis methods in key areas of organic, inorganic and polymer chemistry. Students learn essential skills and computer modeling techniques sought by employers from the chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, electronics, semiconductor and catalysis industries. Environmental and government regulations such as high-yield, low-waste processes are also included in the program.
For your convenience, courses are offered online and lectures can be viewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students may start the program in August, January or June. Only one visit to the IIT Main Campus may be required. The program is designed to be completed in 2.5 years of part time study and no thesis is required.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 31 credit hours. A comprehensive exam, to be completed towards the end of the program, is also required.
Admission Requirements
A bachelor's degree, ideally in science or engineering, with a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 from an accredited U.S. educational institution is required for domestic students. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for International students, those with an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0, or at the request of the admissions committee.
Prerequisites
Required
2 semesters of calculus
2 semesters of organic chemistry
Required Courses
Students must successfully complete all 11 required courses, earning a "C" of higher in each course while maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 ("B" average). Courses for which students have received a failing grade, "E", do not count toward degree fulfillment and must by repeated.
To earn the degree, students must pass a comprehensive exam. Students are eligible to take this exam upon permission of the Program Director.
