Biology Professional Science Masters Programs
Master of Biology
The IIT Master of Biology program combines technical depth with the multidisciplinary viewpoints of patent law, project management, and communication. You have a choice of one of four areas of specialization: Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology with common courses in statistics, intellectual property management or leadership.
This program is designed for:
- biologists in government, medicine, research, or industry seeking career advancement,
- recent science graduates looking to gain a competitive edge in the job market,
- mid-career professionals crossing over to a technical field,
- science teachers seeking career growth,
- persons re-entering the workforce looking to refine professional and technical skills.
For your convenience, courses are offered online and lectures can be viewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students may start the program in August, January or June. Only one visit to the IIT Main Campus may be required. The program is designed to be completed in 2.5 years of past time study and no thesis is required.
Students must successfully complete ("C" or higher) a minimum of 30 credit hours of courses listed below while maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0 ("B" average).
To earn the degree, students must pass a comprehensive exam. Students are eligible to take this exam once the majority of their coursework has been successfully completed. Degree candidates may be required to come to IIT's main campus in Chicago for the exam.
All students are required to take: Communication in the Workplace, Statistics and either Business Principles, Intellectual Property Management or Industrial Leadership plus the following courses in their chosen area of specialization.

Admission Requirements
| A bachelor's degree in biology or related science field with a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 from an accredited U.S. educational institution is required for domestic students. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for International students, those with an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 3.0, or at the request of the admissions committee. The minimum GRE score requirement for admission to the PSM program is 1000. For more details on GRE score requirements, please visit the Office of Graduate Admission's website. Undergraduate courses in Genetics, Cell Biology and Biochemistry are recommended. |
