Research
The department has active Ph.D.- level research programs in areas ranging from biochemistry to genetics to condensed matter physics to particle and accelerator physics. Research programs undertaken by the faculty enhance the intellectual environment of the university and keep the faculty at the cutting edge of intellectual knowledge. In addition, these programs provide opportunities for undergraduate participation and expose the students to real-world learning that will make them more competitive in their chosen careers.
The strength of the department's research activities lies in their truly interdisciplinary nature. This is reflected in the faculty from all three disciplines who participate in the Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics program and the Center for Synchrotron Radiation Research and Instrumentation. A partial list of research topics follows. It is categorized by discipline only for ease of viewing. A more complete picture of our research can be found by looking through the faculty pages.
