Sun Elected to China's CAST National Congress
Xian-He Sun, professor and chair of computer science, was elected by the China Association for Science and Technology to be a representative to its national congress. He was one of only 16 people from overseas and only four from the United States to receive this honor.
CAST is the largest national non-governmental organization of scientific and technological workers in China, an umbrella group for 181 other scientific and technological organizations.
The congress assembles every five years to discuss science and technology development in China for the next five years, to develop a plan, and to ask for approval. China Premier Wen Jiabao gave the government five-year science and technology planning report at the congress.
