Computer Science Chair Position
Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Computer Science, beginning fall 2007. The Chair's primary mission is to lead the department to national prominence, while providing strategic vision and decisive leadership in research and education, as well as fostering mutually productive interactions with government and industry.
This growing department has 17 tenure and tenure-track faculty members. Research funding has dramatically increased in the past five years and now approaches the levels found at top CS departments. Facilities include high-end clusters and graphic workstations, along with shared computing facilities at sister institutions in Illinois via a dedicated fiber-optic research network.
Faculty research interests include computer networking, distributed and parallel systems, information retrieval and databases, intelligent information systems, and software engineering. These interests are reflected in the curriculum, which spans BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. The department engages in collaborative research with a number of companies and government agencies.
With a very diverse student body of over 6,000, IIT is a private, Ph.D.-granting university with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. The main campus is within 10 minutes of downtown Chicago, allowing easy access to the vibrant business community and varied cultural attractions that the city has to offer.
Qualifications for the Chair position include a Ph.D., an international reputation in computer science, excellent communication and administrative skills, and a desire to lead a growing and vibrant department to become a major center for CS research.
Applications, nominations and inquiries should be sent (preferably electronically) to:
Professor Fred J. Hickernell, Chair
CS Search Committee
E1 Building, Room 208

IIT is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
