The Graduate Certificate program offers students an opportunity to learn specialized areas of Computer Science to increase their knowledge and skills as working CS professionals or for further graduate study. Each program requires 9 credit hours of coursework.
A student who completes a certificate and then applies for and is admitted to a Master's program in CS may transfer course credits from the certificate to the program of study for the Master's degree (subject to certain restrictions).
Students in the certificate program take courses as Non-Degree Graduate Students in CS. Applications for non-degree status should be submitted to the office of Graduate Admission by the first day of the semester. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (not necessarily in Computer Science), and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended are due by the fourth week of classes. For details, see Admission Requirements at Graduate Admission.
People interested in the graduate certificate program should contact a department advisor to determine which (if any) courses should be taken to remedy deficiencies in their CS background. At minimum, students must have some programming experience and a knowledge of data structures. All courses for a certificate must be taken at IIT (transfer courses are not allowed).
