Professor Margaret Power Awarded a Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society
History Professor Margaret Power was awarded a Franklin Research Grant, from the American Philosophical Society (APS), to research archives on the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party in Puerto Rico, New Jersey, and New York.
Since 1933 the APS has awarded grants to scholars in order to support the cost of research leading to publication in all areas of knowledge. The Franklin Research Grant program awarded over $332,000 to 75 scholars in 2006-2007.
Power will be examining Archives on the Nationalist Party at the University of Rio Piedras in San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Ralph Templin Papers at the United Methodist Church Archives at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey; and Ruth Reynolds Papers at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College in New York.
Power's research interests include the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party and gender, politics, and transnational connections between the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party and Latin America, Ireland, and India.
In support of the goal of the Franklin Research Grant, Power's research will produce a series of articles, a presentation at the 123rd Annual Meeting of the American History Association, and lead to a possible book publication.
