Spring 2009 Sawyier Philosophy Lecture in Science, Technology, and Society
Alison Wylie, professor of philosophy at the University of Washington, will give the Spring 2009 Sawyier Philosophy Lecture in Science, Technology, and Society on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in the MTCC McCloska Auditorium, IIT Main Campus.

Her talk, "The Future of Archaeology: Collaborative Practice in Action" will discuss how demands for public accountability are transforming archaeology and, in response, a growing number of archaeologists are developing intellectual and cultural partnerships with descendant communities and with a growing range of public stakeholders.
Some fear that this compromises the integrity of archaeological science, but others describe innumerable ways in which collaboration enriches their research.
Wylie explores the epistemic implications of community-based collaborative practice.
Refreshments will be served at 2:00 p.m.
