    IIT Science Educators Present at the 2012 ASTE International Conference

    Norman Lederman, professor and chair, mathematics and science education, will deliver the keynote address at the Association for Science Teacher Education’s (ASTE’s) 2012 International Conference. http://theaste.org/meetings/2012conference/  The conference will be held January 4-7, 2012, in Clearwater Beach, FL.  Lederman’s will deliver his speech “Promoting Democratic Decision-Making and Discourse through Science Teacher Education” on January 5, to over 1,000 science educators and teachers from around the world. 

    The Mathematics and Science Education department will be well represented at ASTE. Three faculty members and six Ph.D students were invited to present at ATSE.  Assistant Professor Judith S. Lederman and Ph.D students Dionysius T. Gnanakkan and Megan E. Faurot will lead a workshop titled “iPad”ing the Field: Using iPads to enhance science and mathematics teaching and learning”.  Ph.D student Selena Bartels will present, "Students, They Inquire but Do They Know?  Teaching Students about Knowledge of Inquiry." 


    ASTE promotes leadership and support for professionals involved in the education and development of teachers of science at all levels.  ASTE advances practice and policy through scholarship, collaboration, and innovation in science teacher education across the world.
