    Mathematics and Science Education Graduate Programs

    Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education


    The objective of the Ph.D. degree program is to provide students with advanced education in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science. These advanced studies will enable graduates to conduct theoretical and practical research in mathematics and science education, to develop and evaluate curriculum, to prepare futrue teachers, to provide professional development to in-service teachers, or to become a leader in education at the state, local, national levels.

    » Admission Criteria


    Admission to the Ph.D. program in mathematics education requires the following:
    • Master's Degree in mathematics/mathematics education. A candidate with a degree in another related field may be eligible for admission provided one has a documented successful experience working with school-age youth.
    • A minimum combined GRE score (verbal, analytical, quantitive) of 1200
    • TOEFL (minimum score of 600/250/100) paper-based/computer-based/internet-based
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 is required
    • Three years of teaching experience
    • Professional statement of goals/objectives (2 pages)

    • Three letters of recommendation
    • An interview may be required
