Comarch Offers Jobs to IIT Undergraduates Who Participated in Krakow Internship/IPRO
Global company Comarch has offered jobs in business development to eight of the undergraduates from diverse majors who participated in the company's six-week internship/international Interprofessional Project (IPRO) at Comarch's headquarters in Krakow, Poland, this summer.
Six of the students have accepted a position and will work in Comarch's offices in University Technology Park on IIT's campus, said adviser David Pistrui, Coleman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurship and Industry Professor of Business.
As established company in Eastern and Central Europe, Comarch is now expanding into Western Europe and the Americas, so the jobs represent the chance to get in on the ground floor of the company's U.S. expansion. Comarch provides information technology (IT) business solutions to a variety of industries based on proprietary products. Specialties include billing and network management, customer relationship management and sales support, enterprise resource planning and electronic data interchange.
Comarch has 2700 employees and in recent years has been growing at about 20 percent per year.
In Krakow, the IIT students worked on interdisciplinary teams with students from AGH-University of Science and Technology, with a focus on Wireless Internet Service Provider and Small Loyalty Product projects. Students received a small stipend for the six-week internship, which also counted as an international IPRO for which they received school credit.
Participating students included Kristel Groth (Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics), Katherine Hadou (Biology), Philip Pannenko and Elizabeth Wong (both Computer Science), Jessica Schmit (Psychology), Manual Lopez (Aerospace Engineering), Jonathan Tam (Civil Engineering), Ty Caughell (Business Administration) and Sebastian Babel, Smit Bavishi, Adam Berg and Francisco Garcia (all Electrical Engineering).
"It's been very successful," said Pistrui, adding that other students already are inquiring about internships with Comarch in Krakow next summer. With Dean Buck McMorris, College of Science and Letters, Pistrui traveled to Krakow last fall to meet with Comarch and discuss opportunities, resulting in the IPRO and Comarch's relocation to UTP.
