U.S. Government Certifies CS Department Courses in Information Assurance
Acting CS Department Chair Bogdan Korel announced that department courses have met all national standards for Information Systems Security Professionals (4011) and Systems Certifiers (4015) through the U.S. government's Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program.
IACE is the education and training course evaluation arm of the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), chaired by the Department of Defense (DOD), of the National Security Agency (NSA). It helps the government promote standards for information assurance (IA) courses and encourage the development of more IA professionals.
IA focuses on security of the information relating to U.S. government military and intelligence activities, such as cryptography for national security. IIT has been a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education since 2006.
Computer Science Associate Professor David Grossman and Assistant Professor Wai-Gen Yee helped to drive the evaluation and certification process and will represent the university when it receives formal certification at the 12th Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE) in June 2008 in Dallas.
