Dean McMorris To Deliver Closing Plenary at GfKl 2008 in Hamburg
Buck McMorris, Dean of the College of Science and Letters and Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, will give the closing plenary at the 32nd annual meeting of the German Classification Society, July 16-18 in Hamburg.
The meeting, "GfKl 2008," will focus on data analysis, data handling, and business intelligence and is organized with the British Classification Society and the Dutch/Flemish Classification Society.
McMorris will speak on "Majority-Rule Consensus: From Preferences (Social Choice) to Trees (Biology and Classification Theory)." McMorris is the president of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS), of which the German Classification Society is a member. IFCS is a federation of societies in North America, Central America, Europe and Asia devoted to data analysis, clustering, and classification.
