Nine More CPS High Schools Pick MSED as Partner For Year 3 of High School Transformation Project

Nine more Chicago Public Schools - for a total of 20 out of 36 eligible schools - have selected IIT's Mathematics and Science Education Department to be their partner in the High School Transformation (HST) Project starting next school year, the HST Project's third.

MSED worked with seven schools in the project's first year and 11 in its second (this school year). The continued expansion is significant because the schools themselves pick their partner. The other two options are Loyola University/University of Illinois at Chicago or Northwestern University. MSED is now working with more than double the number of schools of either of them.

HST is a multi-year, $21 million project to improve high school curriculum and instruction in mathematics, language arts, and science, so all students in Chicago have access to a high-quality education that will prepare them for success in college and work. HST is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CPS, and the schools. It is one of the Gates Foundation's largest domestic education investments and one of the largest projects of its kind in the country.

MSED is working with schools on science education. In its approach, MSED works closely with each teacher, providing weekly instructional support and coaching and, with partners the Field Museum and Glencoe Publishing, offering significantly different curricula focusing on scientific inquiry and nature of science.

To meet the resource needs of the project's expansion, MSED is recruiting science instructional coaches and special education/low literacy instructional coaches. To learn more, visit MSED's website about the project.
