Nearly 200 Physicists To Gather on Main Campus for Nufact09 International Workshop
Nearly 200 leading physicists from all over the world will gather on Main Campus on July 20-25 for Nufact09, the 11th International Workshop on Neutrino Factories, Superbeams, and Beta Beams. They'll also visit Fermilab on July 20.
IIT Physics Professor Dan Kaplan is the local organizing committee chair for the event. Other IIT committee members include professors Howard Rubin, Zack Sullivan, Yagmur Torun, and Chris White.
Scientists are gathering to discuss how best to learn new things about the universe given the exciting discoveries that have occurred in the last few years about the strange behavior of neutrinos.
Nufact09's objectives are:
- To work towards a global agreement on what the next neutrino-oscillation experiments and facilities should be;
- To provide a forum at which these experiments and facilities can be reported and discussed;
- To give neutrino theorists, experimentalists, and accelerator experts a meeting where they can interact--which does not happen at any other neutrino meeting.
The event at IIT will include plenary sessions and four parallel working groups including neutrino oscillation physics; neutrino scattering physics; accelerator physics; and muon physics.
Those in the IIT community who are interested in attending are invited to email Professor Kaplan at kaplan@iit.edu.
