Vince Rivera
Humanities UndergraduateOne week after beginning a temp job at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, Vince Rivera visited Main Campus and liked what he saw. “From my positive dealings with the faculty and staff of Chicago-Kent, I naturally wanted to know more about IIT,” says Rivera. “Once I visited the university, I realized that not only does it have a rich past but it is positioning itself for a very bright future.”
This interest in IIT, along with a belief that the field of humanities complements all areas of his life, led Rivera to enroll as a humanities student. “The study of humanities appeals to me because I’m enthusiastic about the idea of a collective world culture and IIT is a meeting place for people, all who approach life in different ways,” he explains. In fall 2007, Rivera decided to minor in City and Regional Planning, and learned the basics of sketching floor plans in one of his favorite IIT classes. “What makes IIT so special is that students are able to meld disciplines to fit their interests.” Rivera is considering IIT’s Master of Public Administration Program because he would like to “help solve the problems facing our cities.”
