Research & Major Accomplishments
Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Sciences David Schalliol's research focuses on social stratification in urban contexts, which he pursues through mixed-methodology studies of neighborhood transitions and the public education system. Schalliol has been involved in a variety of research activities in Chicago, including leadership and post-secondary transition studies at the Consortium on Chicago School Research, as well as investigations of the organizational context of knowledge production at National Opinion Research Center's Data Research and Development Center. He earned his master's degree in sociology from the University of Chicago in 2004 where he is currently completing his Ph.D.
Schalliol is managing editor of the Chicago-centric website Gapers Block. Gapers Block works with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Chicago Community Trust to increase journalistic coverage of underserved communities.
