    Additional Requirements  
    • Qualifying exam within the first two years of Ph.D. study: Composed of seven position statements (ranked by faculty)
      Position statement 1: Written defense to support position with empirical research
      Position statements 2,3,4: defend orally
    • Comprehensive exam (oral) with the student’s graduate committee. The dissertation proposal is presented orally as part of the comprehensive examination.
    • Final thesis exam involves the (oral) dissertation defense

    Admission Criteria
    Admission to the Ph.D. program in mathematics education requires the following:
    • Bachelor or Masters Degree in mathematics. A candidate with a degree in another related field is eligible for admission provided he or she has a documented successful experience working with school-age youth.
    • Quantitive and Verbal score: 900
      Analytical score: 2.5
      GRE is not required for Masters certification
    • TOEFL (minimum score of 600) if from non-English speaking country
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 is required
    • Three years of teaching experience
    • Professional statement of goals/objectives (2 pages)

    • Three letters of recommendation
    • An interview may be required
