Daniel Meyer received the Ph.D. in education from Cornell University (2003); Ed.M. and teacher certification in Physics, General Science and Social Studies from Harvard University (1995); B.A. with a major in Physics and concentrations in Peace & Conflict Studies and Public Policy from Swarthmore College (1994).

Dr. Meyer began his teaching career as a physics teacher at Manhattan Village Academy , one of a number of new small, innovative schools created in New York City and associated with the Coalition for Essential Schools. During his doctoral studies at Cornell University , Dr. Meyer worked with the Environmental Inquiry Project to further the development and use of inquiry based teaching. At Cornell and at SUNY Cortland, he has been involved in numerous aspects of teacher education, including methods courses, curriculum courses and student teaching.

Dr. Meyer’s research interests revolve around teacher knowledge and practice. He is particularly interested in the notion of social engagement among teachers, where professional knowledge arises out of formal and informal interactions. His work often incorporates perspectives and approaches from the field of Science and Technology Studies, especially the sociology of science.
