Darsh T. Wasan

Professor Wasan leads the university's international initiative, serving as IIT's chief ambassador. A member of the IIT faculty since 1964 and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Wasan is internationally known in the field of colloid and interfacial science and rheology, and his graduates, too, are prominent in their fields. He has served IIT in numerous administrative posts including dean of engineering and vice president for academic affairs, and he continues to teach, lead research, consult for industry, publish and lecture around the world. Among his achievements are the formation of an innovative national center for research and education in food processing and technology that has become a model for cooperation among academe, industry, and government; the establishment of collaborative agreements with foreign universities; and the delivery of IIT courses overseas. Dr. Wasan, who is originally from India, came to the United States as an undergraduate student. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois and his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley.
