    Partners with Business & Industry

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering educates and trains students, advances technology and research principles, and expands its core competencies with new expertise. We welcome interaction with industry in all these activities.

    Department Advisory Committee

This committee was been established for the purpose of helping the department of chemical and environmental engineering achieve its mission, by providing guidance to the planning and development of the research and education programs of the department. The committee members meet annually on IIT's campus during which they hear presentations from department faculty and discuss pressing issues in chemical and environmental engineering education.

    Research Funding

A significant portion of our research funding comes from industry. In addition, the department often hosts visiting researchers, sponsored by their companies to work with particular faculty members, as well as part-time faculty from local companies teach courses to undergraduate and graduate students »  Message from the Vice Provost for Research

    Graduate Fellowships

The department works diligently to support as many graduate students as possible through fellowships. Sponsoring a named fellowship provides a company name recognition among students and allows a company to develop relationships with students as they begin their graduate studies and look to future opportunities.

    Industry Seminars and Career Nights

The department's AIChE student chapter invites professionals over the course of each academic semester to give talks on career advice to undergraduate students. The chapter also organizes an annual Evening with Industry.

    Interprofessional Projects

IIT’s signature undergraduate education experience, the Interprofessional Project (IPRO) Team Course is a two-semester requirement for all students. Students work in multi-disciplinary teams with students from various departments to tackle real-world projects for real clients, such as a designing a sustainable house of the future for IIT and evaluating the effectiveness and proposing the renovation of a Chicago green house project. As mentioned on the IPRO web site: " As an IPRO sponsor, you’re engaged from the beginning. You work directly with faculty to define and launch a project that meets your organization’s needs and interests. You stay involved—mentoring students, sharing your professional expertise and enjoying the energetic interactions with students and faculty in a team environment."

    Sponsoring Opportunities

The department features numerous teaching, research and computer laboratories, some connected to the department's four research centers, all continually seeking ways to stay on top of developments in software programs, laboratory tools and research techniques.

    Co-op Program

Numerous chemical and environmental engineering undergraduate students have received valuable experience and credit towards their degree by working with companies in the Chicago area and beyond.
