Inaugural Darsh T. Wasan Lectureship and Dinner
September 19-20 | Perlstein Hall
ChBE will celebrate the inaugural 2008 Darsh T. Wasan Lectureship and Dinner, beginning with a lecture and dinner on Friday, September 19, and followed by a symposium on Saturday, September 20 in the Perlstein Hall Auditorium. The annual event will serve to honor the many accomplishments of Wasan, and is made possible through the generous contributions of ChBE faculty, alumni and friends of the department.
This year's speaker is David A. Edwards (Ph.D. ChE '87), Gordon McKay Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University and former student of Wasan. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a prolific science author, researcher and novelist. The title of Edwards' presentation is "Innovation in Global Healthcare, Education, and the Arts."

Oldshue Lab Dedication

The IIT Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering dedicated the Oldshue Unit Operations Laboratory on Friday, May 2 at 9:30 am in Room 112 of Perlstein Hall. The renovations of the lab, which is named in the memory of the late James Y. Oldshue (ChE '47, M.S. ChE '49, Ph.D. ChE '51), were made possible through the generosity of Oldshue, John Sachs (ChE '47) and other ChBE alumni.
Oldshue's accomplishments and contributions to the chemical engineering profession, IIT and the community throughout his life are numerous. Following the dedication of the lab, his legacy was celebrated wit the IIT Lifetime Achievement Award, presented during the annual Alumni Awards ceremony.

ChBE Alumni Reception at AIChE Annual Meeting
Monday, November 5 | Ballroom G - Salt Palace Convention Center | 7 - 9 pm
Join fellow IIT alumni, ChBE faculty and colleagues from across the country to meet new IIT President John Anderson, fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and member of the National Academy of Engineering. This networking event will take place in conjunction with the AIChE Annual Meeting on Monday, November 5 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in Ballroom G of the Salt Palace Convention Center.

ChBE Students Compete in 2007 IIT Pumpkin Launch
Four ChBE students represented the department well in the 2007 IIT Pumpkin Launch, held on Tuesday, October 30. Sporting their department t-shirts as their team uniform, the group competed against 19 other teams in the annual competition. Their catapult used tension provided by surgical bands to launch the pumpkin. The team competed in the second heat of the event.
Their pumpkin traveled a total distance of 80 feet, a great showing for the team of chemical engineers! Event Photos
Electrochemical Engineering and Energy Conversion Workshop Hosted Thursday, October 25

The Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, All Cell Technologies will host the Electrochemical Engineering and Energy Conversion Workshop on Thursday, October 25 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm in the Alumni Lounge of Hermann Hall. The event will feature presentations on a variety of topics related to electrochemical science and engineering. The event is free and open to all students and faculty.
ChBE Hosts Annual Peck Lecture and Distinguished Alumni Awards

Join ChBE on Friday, October 5 for the 2007 Ralph Peck Lecture and Distinguished Alumni Awards. This year ChBE is honored to recognize the achievements and legacy of Charles Warner Pierce, the first graduate of the department in 1901. Following the presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award to Pierce's descendants, IIT President John L. Anderson will present the 2007 Peck Lecture on his research in the hydrogel discipline. ChBE Holds New Graduate Student Orientation and Reception
Wednesday, August 22 | Perlstein Hall Auditorium | 10:30 am - noon
ChBE will host a new graduate student orientation and reception on Wednesday, August 22 beginning at 10:30 am in the Perlstein Hall Auditorium for all students new to the department. A reception in the Perlstein Hall lobby will follow the event from 11:30 am - noon. All ChBE graduate students and faculty are welcome to attend.
