2009 Darsh Wasan Lecture
ChBE was pleased to welcome alumni, students and friends to the 2009 Darsh T. Wasan Lecture, presented Wednesday, September 30 at 4 p.m. in the Perlstein Hall Auditorium. Norman N. Li, member of the National Academy of Engineering and president of NL Chemical Technology, Inc., presented “Membrane Technology for a Thirsty Century – from an Industrial Perspective of Energy, Sustainability, and Globalization” during the event.

2009 Armour College of Engineering Commencement Ceremony
On May 16, the department was pleased to welcome more than 60 undergraduate and graduate students were welcomed into the ChBE alumni family. The event was hosted on a beautiful afternoon at IIT's Main Campus and gave students and their families the opportunity to celebrate their many accomplishments while enrolled at the university. 2009 ChBE Alumni Day
On Friday, April 24, ChBE alumni, students, faculty and friends gathered for the inaugural ChBE Alumni Day. The event included the annual Peck Lecture, a student poster competition, and dinner. Jefferson W. Tester, H. P. David Croll Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University, Director of the Energy Institute in the College of Engineering and Associate Director of the Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future, served as the 2009 Peck Lecturer. Tester's lecture was titled "Achieving Sustainable Energy: Connecting goals to research across scales and disciplines." The event provided alumni the opportunity to reconnect with friends and faculty members, as well as meet the department’s current students.

2008 Darsh T. Wasan Lectureship & Symposium
On Friday, September 19, 2008, ChBE alumni, faculty, students and friends gathered in Perlstein Hall to celebrate the many accomplishments of Motorola Professor of Chemical Engineering and Vice President for International Affairs Drash T. Wasan through the inaugural Wasan Lectureship. The event featured a special presentation by David A. Edwards (Ph.D. ChE '87), Gordon McKay Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University and former student of Wasan. The annual lectureship is made possible through the generosity of students of Wasan, faculty and friends of the department.
The following day, participants gathered to participate in a special symposium that highlighted the work of Wasan's students since they earned their degrees at IIT.
ChBE 2008 Commencement Ceremony
ChBE was pleased to graduate more than 35 students on Saturday, May 17 during its academic unit ceremony, as part of the university-wide Spring 2008 Commencement. More than 175 friends and family helped the department celebrate the graduation of its students. Dr. Richard Chylla (B.S. ChE '83; Ph.D. ChE '87), director of strategic development at BASF, delivered an inspirational commencement address encouraging students to broaden their horizons and take advantage of every opportunity given to them.
AIChE Spring Picnic
On Friday, May 9, ChBE undergraduate and graduate students gathered to celebrate the end of the semester with the annual AIChBE Spring Picnic. At the event, students reflected upon the closing year with excitement for their summer. Activities for the event included the traditional Midwest game of "bags" and an introduction into croquet.
Oldshue Lab Dedication
ChBE was pleased to celebrate the dedication of the Oldshue Unit Operations Laboratory on Friday, May 2. The renovations of the lab, which is named in the memory of the late James Y. Oldshue (ChE '47, M.S. ChE '49, Ph.D. ChE '51), were made possible through the generosity of Oldshue, John Sachs (ChE '48, M.S. ChE '49, Ph.D. ChE '51) and other ChBE alumni. Members of Dr. Oldshue's family, as well as members of the university community were on hand for the occasion.
2008 ChBE Alumni Dinner
On Friday, February 29, nearly 40 ChBE students, alumni and faculty gathered for the 2nd Annual ChBE Alumni Dinner. The event was organized by the IIT student chapter of AIChE and sponsored by the department and the IIT Office of Alumni Relations. In addition to a delicious dinner in the Pritzker Club and a chance to mingle with friends, attendees were treated to a special lecture delivered by Dr. Jeff Siirola, Technology Fellow at Eastman Chemical Company.
2007 Peck Lecture & Distinguished Alumni Awards
Friday, October 5 ChBE hosted the 2007 Ralph Peck Lecture and Distinguished Alumni Awards. This year ChBE was honored to recognize the achievements and legacy of Charles Warner Pierce, the first graduate of the department in 1901. Following the presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award to Pierce's descendants, IIT President John L. Anderson presented the 2007 Peck Lecture on his research in the hydrogel discipline.
