    Energy + Power Center

The IIT Energy + Power Center was formed in 1989 through a $1 million endowment by the Max McGraw Foundation of a chaired professorship in energy and power engineering and management. The holder of the McGraw chair serves as Director of the Center and is charged with establishing a comprehensive research and education program in sustainable global energy development. Included in the program are energy resource assessment; engineering, economic and environmental impact studies of U.S. and global energy production, transmission, storage, conversion and utilization systems; as well as a widerange of energy policy studies.

Center of Excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering

The Center of Excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering at IIT is an interdisciplinary research and education center devoted to the advancement of polymer science and engineering. The primary mission of the Center of Excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering (CEPSE) is to conduct an interdisciplinary education, research and technology transfer program in Polymer Science and Engineering. The program has two major objectives:
    • To conduct fundamental and applied research designed not only to evaluate and improve existing polymer processes and technologies, but also to develop new ones.
    • To educate scientists and engineers at all degree levels by providing competence in the fundamentals of polymer science and engineering as they relate to their basic disciplines.

Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering

The primary mission of the Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is to forge industry-IIT partnerships for the development and commercialization of electrochemical technologies for stationary and mobile applications. To achieve this objective, the center:
    • Carries out basic and applied research.
    • Provides strategic direction and operational support as required in cooperative research with industry.
    • Develops innovative educational programs with concentrations or specializations in electrochemical science and engineering.
    • Communicates and transfers research and analytical results to industry.

    Particle Technology and Crystallization Center

The Particle Technology and Crystallization Center (PTCC) is devoted to the development of fundamental knowledge, methods and strategies in the areas of nucleation, crystallization, particle technology, and characterization that will result in faster development of new pharmaceutical compounds, development of new solid forms, and a reduced time to bring a new compound to market. This center is a collaboration of IIT, Purdue University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A unique mechanism for addressing these important problems in particle technology and crystallization in the pharmaceutical industry arises from the combination of the particle technology and crystallization group at IIT, which includes characterization facilities at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory; the expertise provided by the department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University in polymorphism, materials science, spectroscopic analysis, and manufacturing; and MIT in benchmarking and process analysis.
